Jets' Rex Ryan Reportedly Against Return To HBO's 'Hard Knocks'

NEW YORK (WFAN) -- Some Jets fans want to see their team return to the "Hard Knocks" spotlight.

After all, the entertainment factor would be through the roof. HBO would surely have a field day in the aftermath of last season's rift between quarterback Mark Sanchez and wide receiver Santonio Holmes.

Oh yeah, then there's that guy named Tim Tebow.

But other Gang Green backers, deflated after coach Rex Ryan's Super Bowl promises ended in a disappointing 8-8 season, aren't too keen on the added attention a sequel would bring.

It appears there's a prominent Jet in each corner. On the pro-reality series side: owner Woody Johnson, who "wants his team back" on the show "and has communicated that to the network," according to FOXSports.com.

Then there's Ryan, the undisputed foul-mouthed star of the franchise's "Hard Knocks" debut, who FOXSports.com reported "does not want any more of a circus type atmosphere." And that apparently includes HBO cameras swirling around training camp.

According to the New York Daily News, Ryan's hesitation is nothing new.

"At that time (2010), I thought 'Hard Knocks' was good for us. We had nothing to hide," Ryan said at last month's NFL meetings, according to the paper. "We were going to be ourselves, and I think it portrayed us pretty good. I don't know about all that right now."

HBO was denied by the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos before shifting interest to the Jets, FOXSports.com reported, though a network spokesman told the Daily News that teams haven't yet been approached.

"It's early in the process," the spokesman said.

Jets fans, do you think Rex should lighten up and agree to do HBO? Sound off in the comments below...
