Jets Release Quarterback Brady Quinn
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBS/NewYork) -- The New York Jets announced on Saturday afternoon that quarterback Brady Quinn has been released.
The move prevents the Jets from paying Quinn a guaranteed full year's salary during the 2013 season. Multiple reports on Saturday are hinting that the Jets are planning on re-signing Quinn on Monday.
Quinn was originally signed by the Jets on Monday to provide depth while quarterback Mark Sanchez recovers from a shoulder injury.
Sanchez is expected to miss several weeks.
Quinn, a former 2007 first-round draft pick has only had a limited amount of time to learn Gang Green's playbook.
Geno Smith will start New York's Week 1 opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. Matt Simms is currently listed as the Jets' backup quarterback on the team depth chart.
The Jets had until 4 p.m. Saturday to cut Quinn before his contract would become guaranteed.
Gang Green promoted linebacker Danny Lansanah from the practice squad.
