'Anonymous Jets Fans' Put Up 12 'Tom Shady' Billboards In New Jersey
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The fallout from the Wells Report and subsequent "Deflategate" punishment has been enormous.
On Tuesday, Patriots fans protested Tom Brady's four-game suspension inside and outside NFL headquarters in Manhattan. Fans also started a GoFundMe page to help offset the cost of the $1 million fine against the franchise.
But it's not only Pats fans who are making noise.
According to the New York Daily News, 12 billboards mocking Brady went up in New Jersey on Tuesday morning.
The billboards read "#TomShady" J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS!"
The newspaper reports that the billboards were paid for by "anonymous Jets fans." It's unknown how much the billboards cost.
According to the Daily News, the billboards could be seen at various locations on the New Jersey Turnpike, near the Lincoln Tunnel, on Interstate 78, on U.S. Route 1/9, on the Garden State Parkway and on Route 35.
Of course, billboards are nothing new for Jets fans. During last season's 4-12 season, fans called for owner Woody Johnson to fire general manager John Idzik on billboards throughout North Jersey. Sure enough, Idzik was fired after the season.
The fans behind the "Fire John Idzik" campaign told the Daily News that they weren't behind these billboards.
In addition to Brady's suspension and the $1 million fine, the Patriots were stripped of their first-round pick in 2016 and fourth-round pick in 2017.
