Former Jets Tight End Konrad Reuland Dies After Brain Aneurysm
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Former Jets and Ravens tight end Konrad Reuland died Monday, two weeks after suffering a brain aneurysm. He was 29.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced Reuland's death at his post-game news conference after Baltimore lost to the Patriots on Monday night.
"We lost a Raven today," Harbaugh said. "I just want to offer condolences to his family. We love Konrad Reuland. Every single guy in the locker room loves him."
Reuland suffered the aneurysm on Nov. 28 and underwent surgery a day later.
Reuland played two years at Notre Dame before transferring to Stanford.
The San Francisco 49ers signed the 6-foot-5, 254-pounder as an undrafted free agent in 2011.
Reuland spent the 2012 and '13 seasons with the Jets. He played in 26 games, starting three, and caught 12 passes for 90 yards.
He played in four games with the Ravens in 2015, starting one.
Reuland also had a couple of stints with the Colts, including this past preseason.
Some former Jets expressed their sadness on Twitter. Reuland is the second player from the 2012 Jets to die in the past two weeks. On Dec. 1, former running back Joe McKnight was fatally shot in a road rage incident in Louisiana.
"Sad to hear the news about another former teammate," wrote running back Bilal Powell. "My prayers are out to the family of #konradReuland. May you rest in paradise."
"Man more bad news. RIP Konrad Reuland," wrote former cornerback Antonio Cromartie. "You will be missed bro. You were a great teammate. Losing 2 teammates in these last weeks it hurts."
"Just heartbroken over the passing of my dear friend, Konrad Reuland," wrote former quarterback Greg McElroy. "The world lost a special person."
"RIP Konrad Rueland - a former teammate and someone I spent time throwing to this offseason," quarterback Geno Smith wrote. "Sleep well brother, until we meet again."
