Jets Draft Staten Island Native Tackle Oday Aboushi In Fifth Round
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — After making the high-profile selection of Geno Smith on Friday, the New York Jets have drafted a local boy who will help protect their newest franchise quarterback.
The Jets selected Virginia offensive tackle and Staten Island native Oday Aboushi in the fifth round Saturday.
Aboushi was a standout with the Cavaliers as an athletic and agile lineman. He was a first-team all-ACC selection last season and was an early roster selection to the Senior Bowl. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Aboushi will add depth to the Jets' offensive line, like at right and left tackle, as well as potentially guard.
He attended Xaverian High School in Brooklyn. When Aboushi was back home in December, he helped victims of Superstorm Sandy.
