Jets, Dolphins To Meet In London Next Season
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- London, get ready for a show.
The always-entertaining New York Jets -- though lately for the wrong reasons -- will cross the Atlantic for the first time to play the rival Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium in 2015.
The Miami Herald was first to report the matchup Thursday. The NFL made it official on Twitter shortly afterward.
The Jets will be the road team, the Herald reported, meaning New York will still have a full eight-game slate at MetLife Stadium.
The Dolphins have played in London twice before in 2007 and 2013. Their third trip will have added juice. According to WFAN and NFL.com football insider Kim Jones, the AFC East tilt will be London's first divisional game.
Dallas and Jacksonville will kick off the third and final Wembley Stadium game of the 2014 season on Sunday.
The three games in 2015 will be New York-Miami (Oct. 4), Buffalo-Jacksonville (Oct. 25) and Detroit-Kansas City (Nov. 1), the league announced.
"We believe we have a great 2015 schedule that will continue to attract new fans to our sport and strengthen the bonds with our existing fans," NFL international chief Mark Waller said in a statement. "To provide U.K. fans the opportunity to see games on consecutive weekends, to see new teams, and to attend a division game, which feature some of the most passionate rivalries in our sport, are signs of the growth and depth of our U.K. fan base."
