CBS Sports: Jets 'Are Not Interested' In Colin Kaepernick
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Colin Kaepernick reportedly wants to be a New York Jet, but the feeling isn't mutual.
CBS Sports NFL Insider Jas La Canfora reports the Jets "are not interested" in the San Francisco 49ers quarterback.
"Bottom line with Kaepernick – [J]ets have not and are not interested. Colin has wanted out for quite some time and this impending divorce was reported months ago. Hiring of Chip Kelly changed nothing. He's done nothing to build a relationship and a trade remains very likely," La Confora tweeted.
The New York Daily News reported Tuesday Kaepernick wants to bolt the 49ers organization and the Jets are his preferred destination.
Daily News reporter Manish Mehta told WFAN's Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts on Wednesday that Kaepernick has "a lot of hurt feelings" with the Niners.
"He's not happy with the organization, and he has professional and personal reasons for wanting to play for the Jets," he told WFAN. "The Jets are not the only team that he would be happy playing for. It's just the team he would prefer."
It would be tricky for the Jets to even consider acquiring Kaepernick. He's still under contract for five more seasons and is owed $77 million. Also, the Jets have said they want to bring back Ryan Fitzpatrick.
"They are happy with the way Fitzpatrick played," Mehta told WFAN. "They are optimistic that he can get better working with Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker in Chan Gailey's system for a second year. But they don't have a long-term answer at quarterback, and they're smart enough to know that. So it's not like they're not looking at other options. They'd be foolish if they weren't looking at other options."
Kaepernick was benched after starting the season 2-6 and was later placed on injured reserve. Fitzpatrick led the Jets to a 10-6 record.
