2 Women In Critical Condition After Jet Ski Crashes Into LI Bridge
ISLAND PARK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Two women have been seriously injured after authorities say their personal watercraft struck a bridge on Long Island.
Nassau County police say the women, ages 24 and 29, were traveling in the Reynolds Channel around 7 p.m. on a 2009 Yamaha jet ski Monday when they hit the Long Island Railroad Bridge in Island Park. The crash left both victims unconscious.
Police say a father and son fishing nearby jumped in the water and pulled the women to shore with help from a couple on another jet ski that was also in the waterway on an unrelated excursion.
Long Beach Fire Department authorities took both to a local hospital. They are listed in critical condition, WCBS 880's Mike Xirinachs reported.
The crash remains under investigation.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact authorities.
