Jersey City Man Charged With Trespassing Onto Tarmac At Newark Liberty Airport
NEW JERSEY (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Jersey City man was arrested and charged with trespassing after authorities found him on the tarmac of Newark Liberty International Airport.
Siyah Bryant, 24, was dressed in women's clothing and crossed two runways before he was stopped, the New York Post reported.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said Bryant did not turn up on anti-terrorism watch lists, so he was released with a summons.
Port Authority Police Chief Louie Koumoutsos said an alarm was raised after cameras showed Bryant going over the fence, noting that the airport's perimeter security system worked as it should have.
Koumoutsos said the agency is reviewing why it took "an unacceptably long time" before officers located Bryant, who was by that point already being held by an airport employee who found him on the Terminal C ramp.
The investigation will also focus on the actions of the third-party operator responsible for monitoring the cameras and alarms.
