Suspect Charged In Jersey City Church Hall Shooting That Killed 1, Wounded 2
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A teenage suspect wanted in a Jersey City church hall shooting that left a teenage boy dead and two teen girls wounded has turned himself in to authorities.
Daequan Jackson, 18, surrendered to Hudson County homicide detectives around 9 p.m. Monday. He remained jailed Tuesday evening.
Authorities had issued an arrest warrant for Jackson on Thursday, charging him with murder, two counts of aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
The counts stem from a Tuesday, Aug. 9 shooting inside the community hall of the Holy Ghost Tabernacle Ministries on Communipaw Avenue where a party was being hosted at the time.
Killed was 17-year-old Jersey City resident Leander Williams. City officials said the victim had a loaded gun on him.
The two injured girls, ages 12 and 16, both suffered upper body wounds. Both were treated at hospitals and have since been released.
