Jaynie Baker, Accused Accomplice To Alleged NYC Madam, Appears In Court

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - Prosecutors handed over details in their case on Tuesday, as the woman accused of helping run a high-end prostitution ring appeared in court.

The cameras flashed and the TV crews surrounded Jaynie Baker as she appeared in the Manhattan Supreme Court, in the kind of media mob scene that has followed each and every development in the case against the accused soccer-mom madam and the young woman charged as her helper.

On this court date, prosecutors handed over wiretap affidavits that Robert Gottlieb, Baker's attorney, said will tell them whether the wiretapping of her conversations was done according to law.

Those documents are not public, and it's not uncommon for prosecutors to turn them over at this stage in a case.

"She takes this very seriously," Gottlieb said of his client. "It's a difficult time for her. This is not fun."

Gottlieb says the charges have subjected the 30-year-old Baker to a swarm of unwanted attention.

The defense lawyer says he'll decide on his next step after reviewing the information, as Baker is due back in court on April 20.

Baker and alleged madam Anna Gristina are charged with promoting prostitution. They've pleaded not guilty.

How harshly do you believe Baker should be punished if she did in fact assist the accused madam? Sound off below...
