3 Months Later, Blizzard Sets Record In New York, Deletes Another In Newark
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Last winter's blizzard has set another record in New York while a record in Newark was deleted.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced the news Thursday after a review of the January storm prompted by questions about the accuracy of snowfall measurements.

The agency says the 26.8-inch total reported for Central Park will be changed to 27.5 inches, an all-time record.
But the report says the 28.1 inches reported as an all-time record at Newark Liberty International Airport was inflated by improper procedures. The agency is trying to determine an accurate total.
"Snow measurements are extremely difficult to take because precipitation is inherently variable, a problem compounded by strong winds and compaction during a long duration event," Louis Uccellini, Ph.D., director of the National Weather Service said in a statement. "Still, it's important that we scrutinize questionable measurements and reject those that scientists deem invalid to ensure the public's continued confidence in the U.S. climate record."
The report says suspicions about a 17.8-inch measurement at Reagan National Airport near Washington were unfounded. Although substantially lower than readings within the city, it was close to totals from nearby sites in northern Virginia.
