Police Search For Suspect In Theft Of Cellphone On J Train In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police were seeking to identify a suspect late Friday in the theft of a cellphone from a subway rider in East New York, Brooklyn.
Around 10:50 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, the 42-year-old man was riding the southbound J Train near the Cleveland Street station, police said.
The victim was texting on his cellphone as the train pulled into the station, police said.
As the doors opened, the suspect – who was sitting across from the victim – got up and grabbed his Galaxy S5 iPhone and ran off, police said.
No one was injured in the incident.
Police released a photo of the suspect fleeing the station.
The incident happened three days after a fight at the same subway station left two teenagers injured. The young men were fighting on the mezzanine level when one of them upper hand, at which point the other pulled out a sharp object and slashed him on the back, police said.
