Ivan Nova Agrees To $4.1 Million, 1-Year Deal With Yankees
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Pitcher Ivan Nova and the New York Yankees have agreed to a $4.1 million, one-year contract and avoided salary arbitration.
The agreement Thursday was $100,000 under the midpoint between the $4.6 million Nova had asked for in arbitration and the $3.8 million he had been offered. He can make $100,000 in performance bonuses: $25,000 each for 140, 160, 180 and 200 innings.
The 29-year-old right-hander returned to the Yankees on June 24 after Tommy John surgery and went 6-11 with a 5.07 ERA in 17 starts. He is 46-33 with a 4.33 ERA in parts of six major league seasons and can become a free agent after this year's World Series.
Nova had a $3.3 million salary in each of the last two seasons. According to Baseball Reference, Nova has already made over $8 million in his career before this latest deal.
Closer Aroldis Chapman is New York's remaining player in arbitration. Acquired from Cincinnati, Chapman asked for $13.1 million and was offered $9 million.
