It's Official! Prince William And Kate To Visit NYC In December
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- It's official! Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton will be visiting New York City next month.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be in the Big Apple from Dec. 7 to Dec. 9, according to Kensington Palace. Prince William will also make a stop in Washington, D.C.
As CBS2's Alice Gainer reported, there was a buzz at Tea & Sympathy in Greenwich Village, and it wasn't because of the caffeine.
"I'm not sure if I can tackle the crowd, but it'd be neat to see them," Julia Ridilla said.
Owner Nicky Perry said that Tea & Sympathy would be the perfect spot for the couple to check out during their stay in the city.
"I think they need to come here for their cup of tea, cause they're not going to get that anywhere else, we know that," Perry said.
Matthew Arnfield, the manager at A Salt And Battery, told CBS2's Gainer that he would be happy to ease the pair's hunger pangs.
"If they fancy fish and chips there's nowhere better to come than here," he said.
The two will have a busy schedule during their trip.
In addition to attending various charity events, William and Kate will visit to the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center.
William heads to Washington on Dec. 8 for a conference against the trade of illegal wildlife parts. He'll also attend a lunch at the World Bank in support of the fight against illegal ivory trade.
Meanwhile, Kate will tour a local child development center in New York City with First Lady Chirlane McCray and attend a lunch hosted by the British Consul General in New York.
That night, the royal couple will be going to an NBA game in the city as part of an ongoing collaboration between the Royal Foundation, United for Wildlife and the NBA.
William is president of United for Wildlife, which aims to stop illegal poaching and harmful wildlife trade.
On Dec. 9, the Duke and Duchess will tour a city youth organization. William will also go to a technology event that brings together entrepreneurs from the U.K. and the U.S.
The final stop will be the St. Andrews 600th anniversary dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Some New Yorkers told CBS2 that the couple should try to get a 'real' New York experience while they're in town.
"I think they should go and do the Staten Island ferry cause that's the best way to see Manhattan," Sean Kavanagh-Dowsett suggested.
It's still unclear if Prince George will be tagging along for the trip. Kate is currently pregnant with their second child.
