Item That Shut Down Port Authority Subway Stop Turns Out To Be Toy Lantern
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station was briefly closed Monday, as police investigated a suspicious-looking item that turned out to be a toy lantern.
Police officers and dogs converged on the station, which serves the A, C and E lines, early Monday afternoon. Trains on those lines bypassed that station, and entrances were roped off.
Riders were allowed to return around 2:45 p.m.
Passengers who emerged from the station in the meantime said police dogs sniffed at trash cans as about 20 officers investigated.
The A, C and E station sits beneath the Port Authority Bus Terminal at Eighth Avenue. It is connected by an underground pedway to the Times Square-42nd stations that serve the No. 1, 2, 3, and 7 and N, Q and R lines, as well as the Grand Central Shuttle.
Those stations remained open.
