Islanders Unveil Brooklyn-Themed Third Jersey
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Let the overreaction begin!
For months Islanders fans had been waiting for the release of the team's new third jersey and on Wednesday it was finally revealed.
The Brooklyn-themed black-clad alternate, designed by Reebok, will be worn a dozen times during the 2015-16 season, the team's first at Barclays Center following a 43-year run at Nassau Coliseum.
The Islanders will debut the entire uniform when they take on the New Jersey Devils at Barclays Center on Nov. 3.
"It was extremely important to ensure that our passionate fan base could still see the traditions of the New York Islanders represented in this third jersey," general manager Garth Snow said. "We feel we've created a jersey our players will be proud to wear that has unique features which will also connect with Brooklyn residents."
According to the team's website: "the jersey is now available for purchase at both Islanders Pro Shops, located at Iceworks, the official team practice facility in Syosset and at the Pro Shop in Dix Hills Park. Fans can also purchase the jersey at the Team Shop at Barclays Center. For information on purchasing the jersey online, visit shop.NHL.com."
Jersey design has always been a sore spot among the Islanders' fan base due in part to a few ill advised decisions over the years, including the infamous -- and short-lived -- fisherman logo concept the team used from 1995-97 on its way to alienating thousands.
Still, the latest concept piggybacks off the team's Stadium Series design used over the last two seasons that was generally fairly well received.
The following is the list of home games in which the Isles will wear the new jersey:
Tuesday, Nov. 3 vs. New Jersey Devils
Friday, Nov. 20 vs. Montreal Canadiens
Friday, Dec. 4 vs. St. Louis Blues
Tuesday, Dec. 15 vs. Florida Panthers
Tuesday, Jan. 12 vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Thursday, Jan. 14 vs. New York Rangers
Sunday, Jan. 17 vs. Vancouver Canucks
Saturday, Jan. 23 vs. Philadelphia Flyers
Tuesday, Feb. 2 vs. Minnesota Wild
Tuesday, March 8 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Tuesday, March 29 vs. Carolina Hurricanes
Saturday, April 9 vs. Buffalo Sabres
Islanders forward Matt Martin stopped by the WFAN studios on Wednesday morning to talk to Boomer & Carton and deliver to Craig, an avid Islanders fan, his own black jersey.
The Islanders open the season at home on Oct. 9 against the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks.
