Islanders Lose Forward Josh Bailey To Broken Hand

BOSTON (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The New York Islanders suffered a bad break Thursday, though they did manage to get back in the win column.

Islanders forward Josh Bailey left the game after the second period against the Boston Bruins and didn't return. He suffered a fractured hand "and will be out for several weeks," Newsday reported.

"We lose another guy who's been playing real well for us. It's bad luck," coach Jack Capuano said after New York's 3-2 win, according to the newspaper. "Every time we seem to take a step forward with the roster, we lose someone else."

The Bruins were also dealt a big blow, losing captain and top defenseman Zdeno Chara in the first period with a reported knee injury.

Former Bruins backup Chad Johnson stopped 30 shots, and Kyle Okposo scored the go-ahead goal in the second period to help the Islanders snap a two-game losing streak. Frans Nielsen, with an assist by Bailey, and Cal Clutterbuck also scored for the Islanders.

Prior to the game, Boston played a highlight video for former Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk, a member of the 2011 Stanley Cup champion team who was traded to the Islanders on the eve of the season.
