WCBS 880's Rich Lamb asked Mayor Michael Bloomberg if he, the city and the country are better off now than four years ago.

"I thought I heard the President on the radio this morning saying too many people out of work, we got more to do. I think that's something that Gov. Romney would probably agree to as well. Too many people out of work and we've got more to do, so it is always when you ask that kind of question uneven," Bloomberg told Lamb.

The billionaire independent mayor did not address whether he is better off than he was four years ago, but spoke broadly about the city's economy.

"We can say in New York City, and that's the only place I'm an expert on, things are better than four years ago. That does not mean that everybody is in terms of, particularly, their economics. But on average, and that's what we have to deal with here, on average yes," Bloomberg said.

The mayor also noted New York recovered from the recession faster than the rest of the country.
