Irvington Women, Accused Of Starving 8-Year-Old To Death, Plead Not Guilty
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Two Irvington women pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges on accusations they starved one of the women's 8-year-old daughter to death last year.
Attorneys entered the pleas on behalf of Venette Ovilde, also known as Krisla Rezireksyon, and Myriam Janvier, on Tuesday.
Ovilde's 8-year-old daughter Christiana Glenn died on May 22, 2011 of malnutrition and an untreated broken leg, authorities said.
According to prosecutors, Glenn and two younger siblings were starved for more than seven months by Ovilde and Janvier, who shared responsibility of the children.
Then between May 1, 2011 and May 22, 2011, the two withheld medical treatment after the 8-year-old broke her leg, prosecutors said.
In addition to allegedly starving the three kids, Ovilde and Janvier would force them to kneel on salt with heavy objects on their heads for hours and would tie Glenn to a radiator, prosecutors said.
Officials said the two other children, who were also injured and emaciated, were taken from the home.
Besides murder, the two women face multiple charges of abuse and neglect related to Glenn and the two other children, who are now 7 and 8 years old, as well as other charges.
