Irvington Woman Convicted Of Murdering 88-Year-Old Woman
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- An Irvington woman has been found guilty in the 2011 death of an 88-year-old woman.
Yvonne Walker, 46, was convicted Wednesday on murder, robbery and weapons offenses.
Walker stabbed Casetta Blunt 11 times on June 16, 2011, prosecutors said.
Walker regularly came to Blunt's Campfield Street home to do odd jobs in exchange for cash.
Prosecutors said the stabbing stemmed from an argument over $40.
"Ms. Blunt had been kind and generous to Yvonne Walker. She allowed her into her home. She gave her odd jobs and paid her for them. In return, Walker stole Ms. Blunt's jewelry and brutally stabbed her to death in her chest and bashed her in the face with a brick. Ms. Blunt deserved to die in her own time peacefully, not at the hands of Walker,'' said Assistant Prosecutor Justin Edwab.
In a videotaped interviewed, Walker said Blunt struck her with her cane, causing her to become so angered that she "blacked out'' and stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife, prosecutors said.
Walker is scheduled to be sentenced on March 27. She faces a minimum of 30 years in prison.
