Gabriel Hyman, 5, and 9-year-old Harry Hyman apparently walked about a mile and half from Harry's father's home to the Irvington home of Gabriel's father Wednesday.
Between 40 and 50 officers had been canvassing the neighborhood looking for the boys who hadn't been seen since 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, when their mother dropped them off at a home on Ellis Avenue.
When Harry's father returned home late from work and discovered the boys weren't there, police said.
A neighbor had apparently taken the children in after the boys discovered no one was home and she called police Thursday after learning they were missing.
Authorities are questioning the men and the mother, who claimed she had an arrangement with Harry's father to leave the children at his home alone.
Police say the boys appear fine.
An AMBER Alert had not been issued since police did not believe the boys had been abducted.
