Investigators Still Probing Small Plane Crash In West Milford
WEST MILFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Federal officials are still working to determine what caused a small plane crash in northern New Jersey this weekend that left the pilot seriously injured.
Forty-six-year-old Vatche Aghjayan of Alpine was trying to land his Aero Vodochody L39C Albatros at Greenwood Lake Airport in West Milford when it rolled over around 12:30 p.m. Saturday. The plane -- a high-performance military jet trainer -- went down a steep embankment and came to rest upside down in a heavily wooded area.
It took more than two hours to free Aghjayan, who was alone in the plane. He was then flown to Morristown Medical Center, where he was treated for undisclosed injuries and released late Saturday night.
The plane had departed earlier Saturday from Orange County Airport in Montgomery, N.Y.
