Investigators Probe Police Response To Newtown Massacre
NEWTOWN, Conn. (CBSNewYork) -- Nearly seven months after the Newtown elementary school massacre, investigators have continued to piece together how police responded.
As WCBS 880's Ginny Kosola reported, investigators have been trying to establish a firm timeline for the shootings. An eventual report will help police respond to further incidents.
Investigators Probe Police Response To Newtown Massacre
The Connecticut Post reported video and audio from police cruiser cameras has indicated that officers did not enter the Sandy Hook Elementary School building while about 10 shots were fired. But police response was also complicated by false reports that there was a second shooter at the school.
Officers also believed gunman Adam Lanza was firing at them, the newspaper reported.
Police now respond quickly to reports of a gunman. In the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School, officers waited 40 minutes for a SWAT team to arrive.
Twenty first-graders -- all ages 6 or 7 – and six staffers were killed in the massacre on Dec. 14 of last year. Gunman Adam Lanza then shot and killed himself.
