Investigation Of Queens Church Fire Continues
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- Members of a Queens church that was gutted by fire were vowing to rebuild.
The congregation of Saint Mary Magdalene in Springfield Gardens held Sunday services at a nearby school. Friday night's fire destroyed nearly everything inside the church, built back in 1927.
"I have been coming to this church for 40 years, all my children was at this church," said parishioner Edith Bennett.
"I think its a crying shame, there's no other words to describe it," said parishioner Gordon Price.
The cause of the fire was under investigation Monday.
The centerpiece of Sunday's service was a charred painting of Mary Magdalene that was saved from the flames.
