Inspectors Check NJ Gas Pumps For Accuracy
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- State officials in New Jersey were conducting surprise inspections to make sure motorists weren't getting shortchanged at the pump with gasoline prices rising.
Weights and Measures officials cited a Delta gas station in Newark after inspectors found a pump dispensed a gallon less than it charged.
Investigators also issued a citation at a Citgo station on Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City because a diesel pump provided slightly less fuel than was charged.
Acting Consumer Affairs Director Thomas Calcagni said in addition to checking pumps, inspectors were making sure the prices displayed on signs were what motorists were being charged.
