In Midst Of Heat Wave, Severe Thunderstorm Watch In Effect For Tri-State Area Until 8:00 P.M.
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - In the midst of the second extreme heat wave of the summer, some relief could be on the way in the form of rain.
But that rain could potentially be dangerous.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Tri-State Area until 8:00 p.m.
"Parts of the area will be cooled off by a thunderstorm later on this afternoon, but thunderstorms could be locally severe," AccuWeather meteorologist Dave Samuhel said. "And for that, there is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 8:00 p.m. Basically, any storm that forms could have severe wind gusts this afternoon."
The watch includes the following counties in southern Connecticut: Fairfield County, Middlesex County, New Haven County and New London County.
Moving south, the watch includes the following counties in northeast New Jersey: Bergen County, Passaic County, Essex County, Union County and Hudson County.
And the watch includes the following 11 counties in southeast New York: Bronx County, Kings County (Brooklyn), Nassau County, New York County (Manhattan), Orange County, Putnam County, Queens County, Richmond County (Staten Island), Rockland County, Suffolk County and Westchester County.
At least the rain will provide some much-needed relief, but hopefully the damage is kept to a minimum. Sound off with your thoughts and comments below...
