Ice Pick Robbery Suspect Awaits Extradition From NJ
HACKENSACK, NJ (AP) - A person of interest in New York City's so-called ice pick robberies is awaiting an extradition hearing in New Jersey.
Authorities arrested John Martinez on a fugitive-from-justice warrant in Cliffside Park on Saturday night.
Spokeswoman Carole Claren-Weaver with the New York State Division of Parole told The Record newspaper the 39-year-old Bronx resident is a person of interest in the six robberies that occurred from Nov. 10 through Thursday.
An NYPD spokesman says the victims were confronted by a man with an ice pick in elevators in buildings in the Bronx and Manhattan. Money, jewelry or personal items were taken.
No one was injured.
It's not clear whether Martinez has hired an attorney.
