I-78 Shut Down In Springfield, N.J. When Truck Flips Over
SPRINGFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Interstate 78 was completely closed in Springfield, New Jersey Monday evening, after a truck overturned.
The eastbound and westbound sides of I-78 were shut down at milepost 49.5 in Union County, according to New Jersey State Police.
A truck containing a shipping container overturned, state police said.
State police said an unknown type of chemical spilled on the highway. Hazardous materials crews were responding.
No one was injured.
The cause of the accident was unknown late Monday, and it was too soon to determine if the weather conditions were related, state police said.
Earlier Monday evening, a truck also overturned on the Bayonne Bridge and forced authorities to shut the bridge down.
The bridge was expected to be closed until 4:30 a.m. due to the accident, and traffic will also be held at the Goethals Bridge from 4:30 to 5 a.m.
High wind was believed to be to blame for the Bayonne Bridge incident.
