Hurricane Irene Likely To Jumble Local Schedules
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — As Hurricane Irene bears down on the Eastern seaboard sports officials are scrambling to reschedule events. The Category 3 hurricane which has packed winds in excess of 120 mph, is expected to make landfall on Saturday. Here's how local teams and events could be impacted:
Giants and Jets fans are likely to get wet, but their preseason game at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night hasn't yet been postponed because of Hurricane Irene.

The Yankees and Orioles have discussed playing a doubleheader Friday to try and get in the most games possible during the next four days.
The teams are currently scheduled to play five games from Friday to Monday, with a doubleheader on Saturday. Irene is supposed to dump rain on Baltimore Saturday and Sunday, which could affect three of the five scheduled games.

Irene could force rescheduling of at least one of the Mets' weekend games against the Braves at Citi Field. A Friday or Saturday doubleheader might be scheduled, enabling them to get out of town before Sunday. Both teams have a common off day on Sept. 8.

At the U.S. Open, in Queens, officials are watching the track of the storm and have their own weather station on site, according to Chris Widmaier, a spokesman. He said the current forecast doesn't make him fear the storm will affect the opening Aug. 29.

The New York Red Bulls had a Sunday home match against the Los Angeles Galaxy, that's been postponed and moved to Oct. 4 at 8:00 p.m.
The PGA Tour's playoffs began Thursday with The Barclays in New Jersey, but play is being delayed by rain in advance of the storm. With scattered rain in the forecast, it is all but certain the first round could not be concluded today.
The forecast calls for more rain to arrive Saturday and into Sunday. PGA Tour officials have not disclosed any options for trying to finish the tournament.
