Hundreds Will Be Without Water And Gas For Days In Washington Heights
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Friday's 12-inch water main break continued to cause problems for hundreds of residents in Washington Heights.
The main broke just before noon on Friday at West 152 Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue, causing a big sinkhole and flooding the street. The flow of water also led to a gas main break in the area.
Since the break, residents have been without water and gas, and that is expected to continue for days.

Resident Raheel Yule, tending to her pregnant sister who is due at any time, talked with 1010 WINS' Glenn Schuck about the dozens of DEP workers in the street.
"Absolutely looks wonderful. The thing that's missing for us is information," she said.
"Absolutely not sure what they're doing. It looks like something gigantic. It looks like you have to be specialized to do it, but we don't know exactly what's going on. If it's another day or two, we have to get out of here," she added.
Resident Latesha Vargas said she had been smelling gas in the neighborhood even before the gas main break.
"The gas smell is awful. This smell has been going on for about two months, you just smelled it. You didn't see none of this, but you smelled the gas a while ago," she said.
Con Edison is urging anyone who smells gas to immediately contact them at 1-800-75-Con Ed.
