Hundreds Remember Linden Teen Shot, Killed In Apparent Robbery
LINDEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Hundreds of people gathered to remember a Linden teen who police said was shot and killed during an apparent robbery attempt while she was walking home from a Dunkin' Donuts.
About 1,200 mourners packed the First Baptist Church in Linden for the funeral for 18-year-old Amber Wilson.
The recent Linden High School graduate was a popular student and cheerleader. She was active in the community and had aspirations of becoming a police officer.
"She loved everybody and everybody loved her," Wilson's father, Norman Duncan, said last week.
Officials said she was gunned down on July 9 on Hussa Street while walking home with a friend from Dunkin' Donuts. Witnesses said they heard Wilson arguing with a man before shots rang out. She was shot once in the head, authorities said.
"It was a cowardly act," Duncan said. "How could you shoot my baby?"
The 18-year-old's mother, Linda Wilson, died six years ago this month.
Wilson was headed to Saint Peter's College in the fall. She will be buried at a cemetery in Clifton.
The suspect is still at large.
