Hundreds Gather To Clean Up Hudson Shoreline From Albany To NYC
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The Hudson River shoreline was a little tidier Sunday afternoon, after more than 100 clubs and organizations took part in the second annual Riverkeeper Sweep.
Dan Shapley of Riverkeeper said about 75 cleanup projects were held Saturday from Albany to New York City. Hundreds of volunteers picked up trash, planted trees and did other work in riverfront parks.
Cleanup projects were also held along other waterfronts, including the Harlem River at the North Cove in Inwood; the East River at East River Park in Manhattan and sites in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Red Hook, Brooklyn; and Flushing Bay in Queens.
Riverkeeper is a watchdog organization dedicated to defending the Hudson River and its tributaries from pollution and preserving river ecology.
