Hudson River Leak Contained Near WTC Site
NEW YORK (AP) - Officials say a small crack in a Hudson River retaining wall in front of the World Financial Center in Lower Manhattan caused 2 to 3 feet of water to enter a nearby excavation site.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman says the breach was discovered late Thursday night on the west side of West Street near Vesey Street. He says no water entered the World Trade Center site.
Crews worked all night to pump out the water. A construction firm was expected to finish the work Friday morning.
The concrete wall was built so the area could be excavated for a transportation hub tunnel that's to run under West Street and connect the trade center with the financial center.
