Howie Spira Talks Steinbrenner, Winfield In Interview With 1010 WINS
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- After two decades Howie Spira says its time to get his side of the story out.
Spira, of course, is the man who was paid $40,000 by former Yankees George Steinbrenner back in the day to "dig up dirt" on outfielder Dave Winfield.

Spira and Winfield had a falling out, and as the story goes, Spira offered to share some "dirt" with The Boss about the former slugger.
The episode led to Major League Baseball punishing Steinbrenner for his association with Spira.
Spira sat for an interview with DeadSpin.com and released a number of audio tapes, including one of him and Winfield, where he tried to rekindle their friendship.

On Wednesday, Spira talked with 1010 WINS and said Winfield was still dogging him.
"People usually think that this is an old story because 'Howie got George thrown out of baseball,' 'George is dead,' 'whatever.' But there are so many new sensationalistic, dramatic, revealing details that have now come out," Spira told 1010 WINS' Justin Schrager.
By the way, Spira said he gave the DeadSpin interview hoping get a "book, movie or TV deal to follow through and really tell the whole story and complete the cycle."
