House To Vote On 9/11 Health Bill

WASHINGTON -- The House of Representatives is set to vote on the 9/11 health care bill on Wednesday.

The measure would provide long term care to an estimate 13,000 first responders and other workers who became sick working at ground zero.

The bill may not have enough support for passage.

Lawmakers from New York have been meeting with Speaker Nancy Pelosi to try and gain votes.

As of last April, roughly 13, 000 people have suffered from lung problems due to their exposure to the toxins.

The bill's cost has been estimated at $7.4 billion for the first 10 years. New York and New Jersey members of Congress have been pushing for several years on the measure.

The legislation is named for James Zadroga, a New York City Police Department detective who died at age 34 in 2006 from respiratory disease contracted during rescue operations at ground zero.

Similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate.
