House Takes Another Hit With Waters Allegation
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- Another political bombshell has hit the House, as New Yorkers are learning about the latest in the Charlie Rangel ethics investigation.
Another high-ranking Democrat is charged with violating ethics rules, CBS 2's Marcia Kramer reports.
Just days after lodging charges against Harlem Congressman Charlie Rangel, the House Ethics Committee went after California Congresswoman Maxine Walters Monday – and she's vowing to fight.
This means that unless Rangel makes a deal, the two top ranking Democrats will be tried publicly in the middle of an already-difficult campaign season.
House Republicans are nearly downright salivating at the prospect of having both Rangel and Waters on trial at the same time.
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is trying to give off the outward signal of confidence that the trials won't cost her seats in November.
"I simply will not be forced to admit to something I did not do," Pelosi said.
Congressman Rangel had a deal on the table, but so far Republicans on the Ethics Committee will not agree to it.
