Man Busted For Riding Horse On Outerbridge Crossing To Face Judge
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A man who caused a commotion after riding a horse over the Outerbridge Crossing is expected to face a judge on animal abuse charges Friday.
Tod "Doc" Mishler, of Ulster Park, was arrested on Thursday and later released. On Monday, he rode one horse, with another one trailing, on the busy Outerbridge Crossing, which connects New Jersey to Staten Island.
Port Authority officials gave Mishler two summonses for trespassing and impeding traffic, and confiscated the horses.
Animal advocates say Mishler is a homeless man who abused the various horses that took him on what he says is his God-sent mission.
Investigators evaluated the horses on Wednesday and determined the horses were neglected, with apparent saddle sores and bruises on the animals' neck and back legs.
Upon these finding, Mishler agreed to surrender his horses to authorities. The horses are currently being cared for at a Staten Island facility under the care of the ASPCA.
