Man Busted For Riding Horse Across Outerbridge Crossing
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Perhaps he should have just hoofed it?
Pedestrians, bicycles and horses are not permitted on major roadways, but that didn't stop one man from rising a horse across the Outerbridge Crossing on Monday.
The urban cowboy was riding one horse with another in tow and crossed from New Jersey into New York, CBS2's Jim Smith reported.
The incident caused major delays for people trying to cross the bridge.
Port Authority Police issued Tod L. Mishler, 80, of Ulster Park, N.Y. with two criminal court summonses: One for trespass and one for impeding traffic.
"The police are always here to serve and protect all across the law," Mishler said.
Mishler is also known as "Doc," a cancer survivor who has been riding his horse across the country raising money for childhood hunger.
"My dream is to ride across the country and let the people know that we have the money to feed every starving child in the world," Mishler told CBS2's Steve Langford.
He said's he's heading to a cowboy club in Howard Beach.
The Port Authority confirms Mishler did not pay any toll because he was not on a motorized vehicle.
