Horses Headed To Maryland Injured In Cross Bronx Expressway Accident
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Two show horses were injured Tuesday afternoon during an accident in the Bronx.
The driver of a pick-up truck carrying a horse trailer headed for Maryland said he was cut off and clipped on the Cross Bronx Expressway near the Westchester Avenue exit.
The horses were spooked and suffered gashes when the partition between them collapsed.
A veterinarian treated the animals and the NYPD's Mounted Unit brought in one of its trailers to escort the horses.
Traffic was halted -- creating a traffic mess -- and the frightened show horses were walked off the damaged trailer and into the NYPD horse carrier.
The accident was cleared around 4 p.m. and horses' injuries are not considered serious.
