'Horndog High' Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student Speaks Out
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Brooklyn teacher charged with rape in her alleged relationship with a 16-year-old student is out on bail and spoke out Monday.
For Erin Sayar and her husband, Jim Lathrop, it appears the scandal won't be forcing them to split up, CBS 2's John Slattery reported.
When asked if everything's okay in her relationship, Sayar said "yes."
"I'm standing by my wife. I can't really comment on the case, though. I love my wife very much," Lathrop added.
Back on Friday the former English teacher ran a gauntlet of reporters and cameras after making $10,000 bail. The 36-year-old is accused of having sex at least eight times with a student she was supposed to be tutoring. It's charged there was sex in her office and in her SUV, according to the complaint and according to the parents of the teen who plan to sue the Department of Education. They said the teacher also supplied their son with marijuana out of her office.
"I don't have anything to say at this time. No. I'm sorry. I'm so tired of talking," Sayar said.
It was the student's girlfriend who blew the whistle, after allegedly uncovering text messages between the teacher and student, 3,800 of them.
The high school where she taught until January, James Madison, got the nickname, "Horndog High" three years ago when two female teachers were caught in a compromising, naked embrace in a classroom.
Sayar said she'll miss the place.
"I love Madison. I loved it," Sayar said.
For now, Sayar, who is tenured, is still working, shifted into an administrative job. However, the gears are turning to get her terminated, Slattery reported.
Sayar faces eight counts of statutory rape, 16 counts of sexual abuse of a minor, and other related charges.
