Homeless Man Charged In Series Of Violent Home Invasions In Brooklyn
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A homeless man has been arrested in connection with a home invasion spree in Brooklyn.
Police said 24-year-old Edgar Marrero forced his way into three homes within three hours Monday night.
In the first incident, police said Marrero knocked on the front door of an apartment on Berry Street in Williamsburg around 8 p.m. When a 27-year-old woman answered, police said he knocked her unconscious and sexually assaulted her.
When the victim awoke, she managed to fight him off and Marrero fled with her cell phone and laptop, police said. The woman was taken to Woodhull Hospital.
About two hours later, police said Marrero made his way into an apartment near Russel Street and Driggs Avenue and forced a 40-year-old woman onto the couch.
The woman screamed and her husband ran to help her and fought off the attacker, police said. Marrero took off with the woman's cell phone, police said.
Marrero then made his way into an apartment near Norman Avenue and Kingsland Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m., police said. Once inside, he forced a 37-year-old woman onto the couch, police said. Marrero fled with a cell phone and laptop after being confronted by the victim's roommate, police said.
Marrero is also accused of attacking a 44-year-old woman as she was securing her bicycle to a pole at Kingsland Avenue and Nassau Avenue around 10:05 p.m. Marrero hit the woman in the face with a bag and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Officers found Marrero sleeping in a building on Nassau Street early Tuesday. Police said they recovered items believed to be that of the victims.
He is facing a series of charges, including rape and robbery.
