Holocaust Survivor Reunites With Savior In NYC

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - It was an emotional reunion Tuesday more than six decades in the making.

The last time 88-year-old Sara Marmurek saw Wladyslaw Misiuna, she was at a concentration camp in Poland during the Holocaust.

Now, 65 years later, they've been reunited at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

"It's a very special moment in my life," said Marmurek, who lives in Toronto.

Misiuna managed a rabbit farm and he convinced the Nazis to give him five Jewish women to help run the business.

He gave the women food, medicine and clothing and helped save their lives.

Misiuna was eventually arrested for his rescue efforts but escaped.

"I am lucky that I can in person after 65 years say think you to him," Marmurek said.

Misiuna lives in Poland and speaks through a translator.

"It's a huge satisfaction," said Misiuna.

Marmurek says Misiuna not only fed her, but he instilled in her the will to live.

"It carried me through life and helped me to go on," Marmurek said.

The reunion was arranged by the Jewish Foundation For The Righteous. The organization supports Christian rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust.
