NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A highway worker has been killed in an accident that involved a Department of Transportation vehicle.
Errol Wilson, a 59-year-old father of two, died late Monday following the accident on the Cross Island Parkway near Northern Boulevard in Queens.
"The news that we've lost Errol breaks our hearts,'' Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan said in a statement.
Wilson was an 18-year veteran of the Roadway Repair and Maintenance Division of the department.
"The accident is a tragic reminder that so many dedicated, unsung city workers take on dangerous assignments each and every day to ensure sure our city can run," Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.
The NYPD is investigating the cause of the accident.
