Heyman: Yankees Are Checking In On Ex-Mets Starter Mike Pelfrey
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Yankees are checking in on former Mets starter Mike Pelfrey, according to WFAN/CBS Sports baseball insider John Heyman.
Pelfrey is a free agent after spending the 2013 season with the Minnesota Twins. Pelfrey went 5-13 with a bloated 5.19 ERA in 29 starts for the Twins last season.
The 29-year-old spent his seven previous seasons with the Mets. Pelfrey went 50-54 with the Mets between 2006-12. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2012.
The Bombers are looking to fill out their rotation after Andy Pettitte retired and Phil Hughes signed with the Twins. They are expected to bid on Japanese starter Masahiro Tanaka once the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles allow his departure to the major leagues.
