Heat Wave Continues As Advisory For Tri-State Area Is In Effect Until 7:00 P.M.
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - It's a good day to stay indoors if possible, as Saturday is day two of the Tri-State Area's heat wave.
A heat advisory is in effect until 7:00 p.m., and it's creating all kinds of problems -- from air quality issues to a water shortage in New Jersey to open hydrants in New York City.
There's also an ozone alert in effect for the New York City metro area.
AccuWeather meteorologist Dave Samuhel said that the pollution could make it tough to breathe.
"The exhaust and everything from vehicles -- and any kind of pollutants out there -- sort of get trapped right near the surface, especially when we have these hot temperatures and very little wind," Samuhel told 1010 WINS.

Also, as a reminder, opening a fire hydrant without a spray cap in New York City is illegal. Authorities also stress the fact that doing so is wasteful and dangerous.
Opening one without a spray cap reduces the water pressure, which could cause a problem if there's a fire. And without a spray cap, the force of the gushing water can knock a small child down and cause serious injury.
