Hearing Set For Lone Sept 11 Wrongful Death Trial
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A judge in New York was set to preside over a hearing prior to a June trial of the lone wrongful death case remaining from the Sept. 11 attacks.
Federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein was to conduct the two-day hearing Friday and Monday after concluding pre-trial work is in "substantial disarray."
He said it remained to be determined exactly how witnesses will proceed and which exhibits will be shown to jurors.
The June 13 trial pertains to a lawsuit filed by the family of Mark Bavis of West Newton, Mass., against United Airlines and several security companies.
Bavis was a scout for the Los Angeles Kings hockey team when he died aboard United Flight 175 when it struck the World Trade Center.
Ninety-four other lawsuits on behalf of 95 victims had settled.
