Suffolk County Village Considers Bow Hunt To Reduce Deer Population
HEAD OF THE HARBOR, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- There's an emotional debate over another Long Island community's plan to allow the killing of deer.
Some say a bow-and-arrow deer hunt would be the best way to manage the growing deer population in Head of the Harbor.
Others in the Suffolk County village, however, are not so sure.

"You know as runners, we're concerned about our safety, but then as the animal lover that we are, we're also concerned about them," Andrea Tedesco told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.
Some even question whether there is a deer population problem in the upscale North Shore community.
Tedesco said she wants lawmakers to seriously consider all options before authorizing a deer kill.
"First of all, there's a safety issue -- children in the area, children riding bikes and playing," she said.
Village officials say a bow-and-arrow kill would be allowed only in designated areas.
