Hasta La Vista, Baby: Jets 'Terminate' Fullback John Conner
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The Jets waived John Conner on Wednesday, reaching an injury settlement with the 25-year-old fullback.
The fifth-round pick of the Jets in the 2010 NFL Draft has been dealing with an MCL sprain and a hamstring injury this season.
Head coach Rex Ryan said that the Jets needed Conner's roster spot, but he wouldn't rule out bringing him back if he doesn't land elsewhere.
"(This move) doesn't preclude us from bringing him back at some point," Ryan told the New York Daily News. "That is a possibility, that he could be back with us."
To take Conner's spot on the roster, the Jets have signed linebacker Marcus Dowtin off of the practice squad as they get ready to take on the AFC East-rival Patriots on Sunday.
Lex Hilliard, who was signed recently to fill in for Conner, has really caught the eye of Ryan.
"I do really like the way Hilliard's played," Ryan said. "He's done a tremendous job for us stepping in -- not just as a fullback, but even on special teams. He's been a really good addition. With that being said, we'll see. There could be a possibility down that road that you have both those guys on your team."
Conner hasn't played a snap this season. In 2011 he appeared in all 16 games, rushing 13 times for 44 yards and a touchdown. In his rookie campaign, the Kentucky alum also rushed for 44 yards -- on just eight carries -- and scored a touchdown.
