Man Armed With Knife Fatally Shot By Police In Harlem, Woman Found Dead At Scene
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police fatally shot a man armed with a knife in Harlem on Wednesday evening.
It happened around 6:50 p.m. at an apartment on Saint Nicholas Terrace near West 127th Street.
Officers were sent to the scene for reports of a shooting.
According to the NYPD, a sergeant approached a fifth-floor apartment that had its door open. Inside, he could see a woman laying on the ground, bleeding heavily.
The sergeant could also see a man armed with a 12-inch kitchen knife struggling with and trying to stab another man.
Police say the sergeant repeatedly told the armed suspect to show him his hands, but the suspect did not listen to his commands.
The sergeant then shot the suspect in the torso.

The suspect, a 44-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman, 45, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
A 39-year-old man was taken to a local hospital with stab wounds.
A 41-year-old woman was also in the apartment at the time of the incident. She was uninjured.
Police say a gun was recovered from the scene, in addition to the kitchen knife.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details were not immediately released.
